Specification & Use

The vest is made from neoprene (wet suit material) with taped seams and a zipped pouch on the back and front for carrying the load. See photos on the right. It is suitable for both men and women and comes in one size to fit all.   Adjustable webbing straps at each side (see photo below) allow tension to be applied to fit the vest comfortably to the athlete.

Use sand or fine gravel to provide the ballast.  Put the ballast in a double plastic bag, to prevent leakage, and place in the zipped pouches.  See photo below).

Have an equal weight in each pouch so that the vest is balanced.

Start off with not more than 2% of the athletes body weight as the total load. Then. divide it equally between the two pouches. E.g a 60kg athlete would start with a total of 1.2kg of weight i.e. 600g in each pouch. See 'training tips' page.
