The
yarns are unbrushed. With knitting and wear they demonstrates
a luxuriously soft and fluffy haze - the characteristic 'angora
look'. The yarn is exceptionally comfortable to wear next to
the skin not being at all itchy or scratchy. The yarn is usually
suitable even for those with the most delicate skin. One of
our yarns has been named after one of Orkney's most outstanding
buildings - the St Magnus cathedral in Kirkwall.

OUR
COLOURS
All
our yarns are hand dyed in small dye batches (max approx 800g).
Batch to batch shade variations may occur. Some colours are
more liable to shading than others.
Due
to the nature of the natural fibres that we use there may be
slight flaws in the colour of some yarns. These are natural
and add to the beauty and character of each dye batch. We can
supply a real wool shade card for £2.50
incl. postage.

ADVICE
FOR MACHINE KNITTERS
The
yarns are unbrushed and lovely to knit with on any standard
guage machine. Being unbrushed and woollen spun i.e. relatively
smooth, the yarn is ideal for machine knitting.
Furthermore the yarn is strong and does not break easily, a
real God-send for machine knitters! When ordering, ask for your
yarn to be waxed and coned at no extra charge.
Whichever
machine you have it is vital to knit a tension swatch first
and be sure to knit at the correct tension for your chosen pattern.
BOND
machines: Excellent
for knitting at DK tension using the 50/50.
PASSAP/PFAFF
machines: Will
knit the yarns at all recommended tensions using all needles.
JONES/BROTHER/KNITMASTER/TOYOTA
etc: The yarns
will knit easily on these machines although you are likely to
be knitting at the loosest settings on your tension dial if
using the 50/50. To knit the St Magnus 50/50 at tighter than
25 or 26sts per 4", alternate needles will have to be used.
Large garments can be knitted in sections or sideways.
As
yarns are handled very little in machine knitting they will
appear less fluffy immediately after knitting than handknitted
garments. The knitwear will become fluffy with handling, washing
and wearing.
WEARING
- WASHING - CARING FOR YOUR KNITWEAR
Through
our extensive experience with our yarns we can state that knitwear
produced from our yarns, knitted to a variety of tensions, washes
and wears well provided it is washed and cared for correctly.
Garments
should be carefully hand washed (gentle squeeze in warm water)
using pure soap suds or equivalent. Next rinse thoroughly taking
care not to ring, rub or twist the wet garment - instead use
a gentle squeezing action. Short spin inside a pillowcase then
dry flat (pulling garment back into correct shape) and dry away
from direct heat and sunlight.
Do not press or iron your angora knitwear and don't store in
plastic bags but instead allow to breath naturally.
